Youth Movement
Things are looking up. Sadly, in recent days, we have had to say goodbye to some quality players. That being said, the Kings are playing better hockey, and I actually have hope for the future.
I want to wish Jake Muzzin all the best in Toronto. It is a tough loss, especially at four million a year. At leas he ended up on a contender. Also, Nate Thompson has left us for Montreal. Both of these players were great veteran influences and helped to make our team better than it would have been otherwise, despite the miserable record this year.
The kids are alright, at least we hope so. The Kings are moving pieces to make room for young players and clearing a little cap space. We may see a few more moves to come. Looking to the future though, things could be interesting. Cal Petersen, Gabrile Vilardi, Jaret Anderson-Dolan, Kale Klague, Sean Durzi, and Rasmus Kupari are all on the short list for serious time with the Kings next year. While there are likely no top 10 players in that list, over the next few years, our Defense could see significant offensive improvement, and our second, third, and fourth lines should also see a boost.
The influx of youthful talent combined with the recent improved play, brings hope for the future. I don't see a clear path to another cup, but I am optimistic about how things might turn out. I guess Kopi, Doughty and Quick have decided to weather the lack of storms here in LA, though this winter has brought a few more than most. Ideally, Luc and Rob can put the right mix of talent around them.
