Thank your chosen deity that the Red Wings aren't very good. The Kings, amidst a few bright moments, played a rather lackluster game marred by mistakes and the seemingly never ending inability to finish. For much of the first period, the Kings were dominant. Everything seemed to click. The breakout was smooth, fast and effective. They possessed the puck in the zone. The forecheck was working. In fact the only thing that didn't look good, and I have to give them some credit for consistency in this instance, was the power play. Then the chinks in the armor started to show. Toward the end of the first period, the Kings gave up some scoring opportunities that were quite juicy. Had Detroit been a bit more talented and Quick a bit less talented, the score could have been much different, despite the pitifully low number of shots against the Kings.
